15% IIT Kanpur students opt out of placements; to study further or join civil services

As the placement season starts in the engineering colleges in India, around 15% IIT Kanpur students have opted out of the campus placements as they are looking to pursue higher studies in India or abroad while some of them are planning to serve the country by applying for civil services.

This is seen as a very positive sign as the Indian Institute of Technology students are famous for drawing fat paychecks by securing the best offer from national & international companies. The engineering students’ placement figures very envious that the league of best engineering institutes i.e. IITs had to decide on not disclosing the salary package in order to avoid peer pressure & maintain their security. Some of the students have drawn annual compensations worth Crores of Rupees.

While there have been sporadic incidents of IITs & even the top management colleges joining IAS, IFS & other services however if a set of students from are opting for further studies & more so for civil services gives a big boost for the education sector & the nation as it can set an example. While the national service is one of the reasons, the amount of power, respect & the revised salary package (after 7th Pay Commission) also attracts the youth towards government jobs.
