63 IIT engineering students have failed in the last session: HRD Minister

Smriti Irani, Union Minister for Human Resources Development said in a written response in Lok Sabha regarding the expulsion of students from various IITs due to their poor performance, that the Indian Institute of Technology has an academic system to be followed.
 
The IITs being the best engineering colleges in India, students have to maintain certain minimum grades in order to continue their further studies in the institute. She further added that in the last session itself, 63 undergraduate students have failed in 6 IITs as they couldn’t achieve their minimum grades.
 
It is only recently that IIT Roorke had changed their grading pattern. Earlier, questions were being raised as 73 students had been expelled from B. Tech program due to their performance. The students were later re-admitted as a “one-time measure”& shall be on probation with several strict guidelines to be followed.
