UGC's order to close off-campus centers has been challenged in the High Court by BITS Pilani

The BITS Pilani has gone to the Delhi High Court to file a writ petition challenging the notice sent by UGC to India’s best engineering institutes to shut down their off-campus center as they were illegal & were not set-up as per the norms.

Some of the universities were believed to have approached the UGC & Ministry of HRD to clear out the issue & it was being said that the UGC’s decision to close off-campus centers of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research & others may be reviewed again in the next commission meeting.

Upon receiving the news & notices, the deans & chancellors of most of these universities had expressed shock & disbelief. In fact, Prof V. S. Rao, vice-chancellor of BITS Pilani was astonished as they had been following up for recognition of their other centers but the UGC hasn’t responded in 5 years.

Finally, BITS Pilani has upped the ante by taking it up the legal to seek a stay on the UGC order as the hearing of the petition is slated for Tuesday.
